the Detroit League of the Nation-
al Home for Jewish Children
at Denver, announces that plans
have been completed for the De-
troit League's annual fall fund-
raising project. On Thursday,
Oct. 8, the Detroit League will
sponsor a play which will be pre-
sented by the Catholic Theater of
Detroit in the auditorium of the
Art Institute.
Paul A. Lilly, business man-
ager of the Catholic Theater, has
selected a three-act comedy,
"The More the Merrier," written
by Frank Gabrielson and Irvin
Pincus.
Mrs. Irwin Cohn has been ap-
pointed general chairman, with
Mrs. J. J. Karbal, of 2993 Webb
Ave., as ticket chairman and
Mrs. Edward Schlussel of Stur-
tevant Ave. as co-chairman; Mrs.
Moe Leiter, chairman of hospi-
tality, with Mrs. Maurice Cohen
and Mrs. Sanford Klein as co-
chairmen. Tickets are , now ob-
tainable by calling Mrs. Karbal,

members of the ticket committee:

HERRING BUTTER
1 Schmaltz herring
1 small onion

1 small, tart apple

3 teaspoonfuls butter
Soak herring in cold water for

several hours. Bone herring. Chop
onion, apple and boned herring
until it forms a paste, then add
butter. Spread on rye bread.

COOKED HERRING
2 salt herring soaked

cold
water overnight
I onion, sliced
Dash of pepper
1 teaspoonful mixed spices
1 lemon, juiced
1 Tablespoon sugar
2 ginger snaps
Cook all ingredients, except
herring, in a small quantity of
water until onions are tender,
then place sliced herring in pan
and continue cooking for 10
minutes.
