NEW YORK—(Religious News
Service)—The governors of 35
states have adddressed . Rosh Has-
hanah greetings to the Jewish
citizens of their states and to
the Jews of the United States, ac-
cording to an announcement here
by Dr. Israel Goldstein, presi-
dent of the Synagogue Council
of America.
This is the first time that the
chief executives of the states, as
a group, have conveyed such
greetings on the occasion of the
Jewish religious New Year
through the Synagogue Council.
The Council represents the organ-
ized Jewish religious groups in
America, embracing more than
1,300 Orthodox, Reform and Con-
servative rabbis and congrega-
tions.
Responding to the governors'
greetings, Dr. Goldstein described
them as expressive of "the spir-
itual bond which unites Chris-
tian and Jew in the American
fellowship as fellow-builders and
fellow-defenders of our democ-
racy, pledged with their lives to
safeguard it from harm."

"Stars" in Paris
When Fred M. Butzel was 50, on Aug. 25, 1927, the Zionists
of Detroit honored him with an ineription in the Golden Book
of the Jewish National Fund in Jerusalem and presented him
with a resolution greeting him on that occasion. The above is a
reproduction of the engraved resolution which was signed by
Maurice El. Zackheim, at that time president of the Detroit
Zionist District, and the following of his associated officers: Mrs.
Joseph II. (Dora B.) Ehrlich, vice-president; the late Abraham J.
Hoffman, treasurer; Israel Zilber, secretary; Abraham Caplan,
Financial secretary.
