Friday, August 28. 1942 .1" Jewish Youth's LISTENING POST By DANNY RASKIN During the last week, we vis- ited Army camps throughout the middle-west, and we're happy to tell you that your response to the column's plea for more letters to the boys in service is really being appreciated. Letters from home snake the day easier for them, the boys say, they take away a lot of that lonesome or homesick feel- ing. Mail from strangers, as well as friends and relatives, is corn- ing oftener. The best way to realize the good they are doing is to watch the boys read. Most of the boys have already acclimated themselves to Army life. The loudest complaint as sual, focusses on that 5:30 bugle, and if you home folks ave trouble with your appetite, don't see a doctor, just join up. e boys dig their forks in like hey were bayoneting Hitler 6r I irohito. Servicemen are the greatest ntertainment audience in the vorld. If -they've heard the joke ive times or five years ago, ey'll still laugh and applaud, •d even the sergeants laugh 'th you - when you rib' them. They all know what they're "ghting for, and are itching for ction. The Jewish boys from Detroit ked us to say hello to every- •ne for them, and to tell you ow much they appreciate the etters, magazines, cookies, etc. one soldier remarked; "Danny, don't think there's another ity in the world with such ell people as Detroit." When •rnv of them sent regards spe- ...- .cally to Joe Brown, colored aintenance man at the Jewish titer, it reminded us of the e last Fall, when two non- ewish agitators were collared Joe at a dance, for creating disturbance. Taking them out- de, the building, Joe said to •em: "It's people like you two • t's causin' so much trouble or the Jews. It'd be a better orld to live in if they got rid f all you guys."
