Temple Israel announces that
the Moritz Kahn Memorial Li-

Temple Israel as a tribute to the
memory of their departed
brother, Moritz, by Albert Kahn
of Detroit, Louis Kahn of Birm-
ingham, Felix Kahn of San Fran-
cisco, and Julius Kahn of Cleve-
land. The first set of books
which shall form a part of the
Moritz Kahn Library has al-
ready been received. It is the
first seven volumes of the New
Universal' Jewish Encyclopedia.
Until Temple Israel erects its
own synagogue structure, the
books will be housed in the Li-
brary Room of the new Temple
at '611 Boulevard building.
Temple Israel announces also
the establishment of the Louis

Fund. This fund has been estab-
lished by a large initial gift con-
tributed by Mr. and Mrs. Harry
M. Raden toward the immediate
purchase of an organ which shall
later be housed in the synagogue
structure of Temple Israel. An-
other gift which has just been re-
ceived by Temple Israel is a
silver filigree ornament of the
Scroll of the Law, made in 1850
by Wolf Goldstein, silversmith
of London, England. The orna-
ment is called the "Yad" or
pointer, used by the reader of
the Scroll to guide himself
through the unpunctuated manu-
script. It is a duplicate of the
Yad made by the famous silver-
smith for the great Duke Street
synagogue of London. The gift
is made by the daughter of Wolf

Two sets of the new Universal
Jewish Encyclopedia have been
presented to the United Hebrew
Schools of Detroit by Abe Kasle
and Charles Feinberg.
Three branches of the schools,
Philadelphia-Byron, David W.
Simons and Rose Sittig Cohen,
have reference libraries.
"These encyclopedias will be
a real asset to our reference li-
braries," Bernard Isaacs, super-
intendent of the schools, stated.
The encyclopedias were se-
cured for the schools during the
visit here of A. Schenkerman,
who supervises the distribution
of the new encyclopedia in this
part of the country.
Detroit distributors of the Uni-
versal Jewish Encycllopedia are
I. Zemel and Albert Friedeberg.
During his stay in Detroit, Mr.
Schenkerman visited a number
libraries. He said that the Shaa-
rey Zedek Congregation has the
" best synagogue library in the
country and that it is more wide-
ly used than any other similar
circulating library.
