Popular Detroit Soprano Will Sing in Art Institute Auditor-
ium During High Holidays As Well As at
Sabbath Eve Services

When the solemn High Holyday period is ushered
in with Rosh Hashanah, another innovation will be intro-
duced here in synagogue choral work.
At Temple Israel services in the auditorium of the
Detroit Institute of Arts, Emma Lazaroff Schaver, Detroit's
popular soprano, will sing Hebrew melodies and will be

presented as soloist during th
Holydays as well as at Sabbath
Eve services.

The appointment of an Allotment Committee to al

for Refugees, Overseas Needs and Palestine, was an
nounced this week by Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, chairman o

In accordance with the provi-
sions of the agreement constitut-
ing the 1942 United Jewish Ap-
peal, the Allotment Committee
has authority over the distribu-
tion of all funds raised by the
United Jewish Appeal above the
initial sum of $9,100,000. Funds
in excess of this sum are to be
divided between the Joint Dis-
tribution Committee and the
United Palestine Appeal by the
Allotment Committee. The Na-
tional Refugee Service has re-
ceived a fixed grant for the year.
Following the precedent estab-
lished in previous years, mem-
bership of the 1942 Allotment
Committee is composed of two
representatives each of the J.D.C.
and the U.P.A., and three repre-
sentatives of the Jewish corn..
munities at large selected jointly
by the two organizations. Mem-
bers of the Allotment Committee
are James H. Becker of Chicago
and I Edwin Goldwasser of New
York, representing the J.D.C.;

Annual Home Relief
Oct. 25

The first board meeting of the
season of the Home Relief So-
ciety took place Aug. 21, at the
home of Mrs. Maxwell Emmer.
Oakman Blvd.
Reports were given by chair-
men of committees.
Mrs. Ralph Levy, chairman of
the ways and means committee,
and of the forthcoming dinner
dance, save a complete report of
the activities during the summer
months.
The major fund-raising project
of the organization i sits annual
dinner dance, to be held at the
Book-Cadillac Hotel on Sunday.
Oct. 25.
The purpose of the annual din-
ner dance is to raise sufficient
funds with which to carry on
the humanitarian work of the
organization. Those wishing to
make their pledges and reserva-
tions for this affair may do so
