Arthur Szyk, artist and polit-
ical caricaturist, is pictured with
Gabriel Wechsler, national secre-

ish Army of Stateless and

bees." Mr. Szyk presented the
work to the committee, and -it
now hangs in the national offices
at 535 Fifth Ave., New York.
Mr. Szyk declared the painting
was a symbol of "physical resis-
tance." It depicts the defense of
the colony of Tel Hai in Pales-
tine. The central figure is Captain
Joseph Trumpedor, who died from
wounds received during the battle
with the Arab marauders. Cap-
tain Trumpeldor was one of the
founders of the Zion Mule Corps
which fought bravely at Gallipoli

in the last war, then helped incor-
porate them into the Jewish Le-
gions which fought in Palestine
under the personal command of
Colonel John H. Patterson, D.S.0_,
now an honorary chairman of the
Committee for a Jewish Army.

Bnai Brith Asks
Zion Defense Aid

WASHINGTON, D. C.—While
taking no _position on the "Jew-
ish army" question, Bnai Brith's
central administrative board this
week unanimously went on rec-
ord as urging that "immediate
steps be taken by the proper
authorities to enable the Jewish
population resident in Palestine
to defend themselves against
Axis aggression and to afford
them the opportunity to make
a maximum contribution to the
United Nations in the achieve-
ment of an early victory."

COATESVILLE, Pa. — An un-
precedented resolution unani-
mously adopted here last week at
a special meeting of the Coates-
ville Jewish Federation provides
for enrollment in the Zionist Or-
ganization of America of every
contributor to the Federation. It
is announced that the plan will
be inaugurated at the forthcoming
annual drive to be held in Coates-
ville this fall. The resolution in-
cludes a provision whereby the
enrollment is automatic for all
contributors except for those who
specifically indicate their desire
to be excluded.
The action taken by the Coates-
ville Federation further declared
that "in every community which
has a Community Chest or which
has a Federation, at the time of
the annual drive every contri-
butor should be enrolled as a
member of the Zionist Organiza-
tion . . . We strongly recommend
that wherever feasible or prac-
tical the same plan be adopted
throughout the country."
Mark Sugarman, chairman of
the local Federation. received a
message of congratulations from
Simon Shetzer, executive direc-
tor of the Zionist Organization of
America.

to his views, Mr. Biddle asserts.
He urged that "we can liber-
alize our regulation of alien en-
emies," without nullifying the
effect of safeguards against sa-
botage, espionage and all forms
of fifth-column activities.
