GUEST EDITORIAL

Bonds and Stamps

To Win the War

By NATE S. SHAPERO
Wayne County Chairman, Michigan Retailers
War Savings Committee

I am proud to serve as chairman of the great single
effort to mobilize all Americans, regardless of race or
creed, in our victory efforts.
The winning of this war depends upon all of us, be-
cause the success of the men on the firing lines hinges
upon the extent of our War Stamp and
Bond campaigns. If the needed money is
not provided for the government to buy
ships and planes, tanks and guns, it is at
once apparent that the supply of the
weapons of war will fall short.
It must never be said—I am certain it
never will be said—that we are not doing
our full part to win the war. Through the
active participation of all retail merchants, Nate S. Shapero
25,000,000 merchants not reached in any other way are
now afforded an opportunity to help win the war. This
great army of civilians, backed by an additional army of
25,000,000 workers in our factories, who can participate
in a 10 per cent payroll deduction plan, constitute the
backbone of the folks at home.

Wayne County has 100,000 salespeople. They have
a quota of $3,540,576 in sale of Stamps and Bonds. With
a little extra "push" they can surpass this quota.
We are all in this tight for the duration. It is not
child's play. Every 10-cent Stamp may help save the life
of an American soldier through the purchase of superior
materials of war. It may shorten the war. It will eventu-

ally help exterminate the uncivilized enemy.
Let us all—every single merehant and sales person,
and every single individual citizen—throw- in our best

efforts for the winning of the war.
