NEW YORK (JPS) — Liberal
Attorney-General Francis Biddle,
explaining the program which
has guided his attitude toward
the "enemy-alien" problem, as-
serts that the determining dif-
ference between the enemy al-
iens in this war and in the last
is one of ideology rather than
nationality. His views are con-
tained in the August issue of
Free World.

Arthur Szyk, artist and polit-
ical caricaturist, is pictured with
Gabriel Wechsler, national secre-
tary of the Committee for a Jew-
ish Army of Stateless and
Palestinian Jews, before his
painting "The Modern Macca-
bees." Mr. Szyk presented the
work to the committee, and -it
now hangs in the national offices
at 535 Fifth Ave., New York.
Mr. Szyk declared the painting
was a symbol of "physical resis-
tance." It depicts the defense of
the colony of Tel Hai in Pales-
tine. The central figure is Captain
Joseph Trumpedor, who died from
wounds received during the battle
with the Arab marauders. Cap-
tain Trumpeldor was one of the
founders of the Zion Mule Corps
which fought bravely at Gallipoli

in the last war, then helped incor-
porate them into the Jewish Le-
gions which fought in Palestine
under the personal command of
Colonel John H. Patterson, D.S.0_,
now an honorary chairman of the
Committee for a Jewish Army.

STREICHER'S OCCUPATION

to scream violently.

in to see what was the matter.
"A dreadful, incredible
dream ,. - shouted the editor of
Der Stuermer. "I dreamed there
were no Jews left in the world."

I% of British
Are Serving
Armed Forces

LONDON (JTA)—Over 40,-
.0 British Jews, more than 11

.r cent of the entire JeWisli .
'pulation in Great Britain
id Northern Ireland, are now
rving in Britain's armed
ces, it was disclosed this
'ek by Sir Maurice Bloch,
esident of the Jewish Board
Guardians.
Maurice made his an-
cement while addressing
annual meeting of the
Board of Guardians in
asgow. The Jews in Britain
titute less than one per
t of the general population.

Mr. Biddle recognized the ex-
istence of prejudice in America
against Negroes, Jews and oth-
ers, but he feels this is "on the
wane." The fact that a man was
born in Germany, Italy or Ja-
pan is not necessarily a criterion
to his views, Mr. Biddle asserts.
He urged that "we can liber-
alize our regulation of alien en-
emies," without nullifying the
effect of safeguards against sa-
botage, espionage and all forms
of fifth-column activities.
