$3,000 Already Raised
Spokesmen for Detroit units of
the Jewish War Veterans of the
United States announced at meet-
ings of the national executive
committee last Saturday and
Sunday that the sum of $3,000
already had been raised here as
the gift of the Detroit posts to
the United States for the pur-
chase of Airacobras to fight the
Axis.
The checks were presented to
the guest of honor, Benjamin
Kaufman, of Paterson, N. J., na-
tional commander of the Jewish
War Vet e r an s. Presentations
were made by Dr. Hilliard Gold-
stick and Dr. Perry P. Burnstine.

On Saturday evening, a public
meeting at the Shaarey Zedek
was addressed by Mr. Kaufman,
J. George Fredman, editor of the
Jewish Veteran, and several De-
troit spokesmen.
Mr. Kaufman won the Con-
gressional Medal of Honor during
the first World War for heroism
at the Battle of the Argonne.
When the commander of his com-
pany was killed, Kaufman, his
left arm wounded, took charge
against a German machine gun

—A check for $50,000 was pre-
sented this week to Larry Bell,
president of the Bell Aircraft
Corporation, for a P-39 Aircobra
which the Jewish War Veterans
of the United States will pre-
sent to the United States Army.
The check was handed Mr.
Bell by Benjamin Kaufmann,
president of the Veterans' organ-
ization, just after the plane rolled
off the assembly line. It is the
second fighter plane that the
