GUEST EDITORIAL
Jewish Welfare Board's Program
By HENRY MEYERS
Chairman of the Detroit Army and Navy Committee of the
Jewish Welfare Board and Member of Administrative
Committee of National Jewish Welfare Board
One of the more significant phases of the war
effort is the assistance which the civilian population
can give toward the maintenance of morale among
the men in the services. The formal organization
which has undertaken this work is
United Service Organizations of Amer-
ica. The Jewish agency which was in-
vited to participate in the organization
of the USO, with five other organiza-
tions, is the National Jewish Welfare
Board.
On the National level, Frank L.
Weil, president of the Jewish Welfare
Board, is a member of the national
board of the USO, as is also Louis
Henry Meyers Kraft, executive director of the J.W.B.
In addition to the national organization, the USO
functions in local areas, and the representatives of
the Jewish Welfare Board on the board of directors
of the Metropolitan Detroit branch of the USO are
Fred M. Butzel, Isidore Sobeloff and the writer.
Along with and as part of its work with the USO,
the Jewish Welfare Board has its own representatives
in metropolitan centers and in the cities close to
camps. The work of the Board is supervised by lay
committees through whom volunteers are recruited.
Fred M. Butzel is chairman of the Michigan area.

AMERICAN JEWRY'S SUPPORT AIDS THESE CHILDREN IN ENGLAND
Youngsters find a refuge in war-torn England, at the Sara Delano Roose-
velt Nursing Home, established and maintained by the Jewish Section of the
Interfaith Committee for Aid to the Democracies, as a Memorial to the Presi-
dent's mother. The shelter is one of seven opened and maintained by this
organization, in secluded sections of the English countryside for bomb-shocked
and orphaned children of war. Dr. Israel Goldstein of New York, president of
the Jewish National Fund of America, is chairman of the Jewish Section of the
Interfaith Committee for Aid to the Democracies.
