GOEBBELS . "DISCOVERY"
Our colleague "Chronicler,"
riting in the London -Jewish
ronicle, tells us that-
"Goebbels' Angrif has fea-
urcd a picture of the new
rchbishop of Canterbury, Dr.
emple, commenting that he
well known for his 'Bol-
evist sympathies,' but for
e time being 'one - cannot
ove that be is of Jewish or--
. . His face, however, gives
to . the suspicion that there
Jewish blood somewhere
ong his forefathers."
This is typical of the Nazi
asts whose reversion to a pol-
of mass murders of Jews and
er anti-Nazis in Germany and
the "conquered" countries is
t proof of what is to be ex-
ted of such barbarians.
The Goebbels "discovery" re-
inds us of a splendid Lincoln
ry which is significant in this
nnection.
INCOLN'S REPARTEE
It is recalled that during the
ous Lincoln-Douglas debates,
plain-spoken fellow by the
e of Jerry Paterson present-
himself to Abraham Lincoln
a after introducing himself,
'd: "Mr. Lincoln, I'm known
the homeliest man in this
untry, and people are contin-
ly telling me that I look like
•u."
Lincoln examined Jerry's face
ery carefully and replied: "Yes,
think we do look alike; there
a striking resemblance." Then
▪ eyes twinkled with amuse-
ent as he added: "But I think
t I have a little less cheek
an you have."
In a sense, it is sacrilege to
escribe Goebbeisian sadism as
eek." But the Lincoln story
ould stand us in good stead for
e "small fry" among the Hit-
rites who continue to talk the
azi way and who accept Hitler-
"discoveries" as facts.

WS AND THE BIBLE
Bible Week will be observed
ginning Oct. 12. It is well
at Jews should examine their

n and should review in their

Not so long ago, Sir Norman
ngell reprimanded a Detroit
udience and told them that the
English are better acquainted
with the Bible than the Jews
themselves. We have heard other
hristians say so. It is a serious
_ buke. Perhaps we should look
at the record now, and do some-
thing about it. If there is a Jew-

ATLANTIC CITY (JPS)—An
all-out drive to restore the Sab-
bath in Jewish life and to root
out violators of Sabbath obser-
vance was launched here at the
30th annual convention of Young
Israel, Orthodox youth organi-
zation.
Rabbi Max Wohlgelernter told
the convention that success had
been registered by the organiza-
tion in Detroit and Philadelphia
in obtaining the co-operation of
Jewish storekeepers. It was re-
ported that during the year the
Young Israel employment bureau
had obtained positions for 1,100
young men and women who
observe the Sabbath.
A sharp discussion on the
leadership of the Zionist move-
ment arose out of a suggestion
by Louis L. Cohen that Young
Israel should participate actively
in the Zionist movement instead
of merely aiding Palestine at
a distance.
