HITLER'S HEROISM
Before the present war was
launched upon mankind, when
doubt wat expressed whether
Hitler had really earned the
Iron Cross in the first World
War, a reporter was sent to in-
terview the Fuehrer on the sub-
ject. Hitler told him he had been
awarded the medal for having
taken twenty-two British prison-
ers.
"All by yourself?" the report-
er asked.
"Of course," the Fuehrer
averred.
"But how did you manage t?"
"By surrounding them," was
the Fuehrer's cxplanation.

THE YOUNG "SHADCHAN"
The old marriage-broker took
a pupil who wanted to learn the
Shadchan business.
"The best way to learn," he
said. "is for you to come along
with me and see how marriages
are arranged."
As they were going to the first
client, the Shadchan said: "There
is one thing you must under-
stand from the start. We in the
Shadchan business are accustom-
ed to exaggerate. Thus, if a girl
has a dowry of £1,000, we would
hint that she had £3,000—just to
get the party interested. So
whatever I say this morning you
must back me up with a little
exaggeration, and I shall soon
see whether you will make a
good Shadchan."
The pupil said he quite under-
stood. They called on a young
man who wanted to get married,
and the old Shadchan started to
extol the merits of one of his
lady clients.
"She comes of a very good
family," he began. His compan-
ion took his cue.
1 'A good family, I should think
so!" he exclaimed. "You might
say that she belongs to the no-
bility."
The old man nodded approval
and went on: "And her people
are rather.‘ich."
His pupil chimed in: "Rich? I
should say they are! They are
rolling in money! You might say
they are almost millionaires!"
"Moreover she's not a bad-
looking girl. She's what you
might call beautiful."
"Beautiful," said the young
one, "is not the word! She's a
veritable Venus! Such grace,
such elegance, such . . ."
"There's only one thing," in-
terrupted the Shadchan, deem-
ing it necessary at this point to
curb his pupil's enthusiasm, "I
ought to mention that she has a
slight defect. She's got a tiny
hump."
"What do you mean, a tiny
hump?" exclaimed the young one,
resolved to do his part to the
end. "A tiny hump, indeed! It's
a mountain of a hump!"

THEY HAVE A NEW
VERSION FOR "3R's"
UP AT GLASSMAN'S

From as far back as we can
remember, it has been conceded
that the "three R's" formed the
basis of a sound plan of life. At
Glassman's Resort, up at South
Haven, Mich., they recognize the
same age-old slogan, with a dif-
ferent but just as vital an inter-
pretation. Instead of "reading,
'riting and 'rithmetic", it's "rest,
relaxation and recreation."
On the edge of Lake Michigan,
a stone's throw of golf links, ten-
nis courts, sandy beach and rid-
ing trails, you'll find this answer
to your vacation problems. And
to meet the needs of healthy out-
door appetites, Glassman's offers
a delicious Kosher menu to please
the most exacting epicurean.
You'll find only the congenial
kind of people you want to meet
—you can relax completely—you
can enjoy the most delightful
vacation in many a day — at
Glassman's, 227 Oak St., South
Haven, Mich. The telephone num-
bers arc 408 and 449.

Charge Denied

Deputy, However, Takes Ex-
ception to Polish Answer
on Russian Complaint

LONDON, (JTA)—The Polish
Telegraphic Agency has issued
an authorized \statment denying
the reports thi ? anti-Jewish dis-
crimination is practiced by Pol-
ish relief officials in Russia.
The charges that such discrim-
ination exists were made by
Jewish leaders from Poland now
in Palestine on the basis of in-
formation which reached them
from Russia.
In' its statement, the Polish
Telegraphic Agency says that the
Polish embassy in Kuibyshev has
officially explained that all relief
transports which reach Russia
for refugees from Poland are di-
rected by the transportation
department of the embassy to the
various districts where refugees
are located. The relief is dis-
tributed there solely in accord-
ance with the needs of the
recipients, and all Polish citizens
are treated alike, the explanation
stated. Polish Jews are ade-
quately represented in the re-
gional relief offices, it added.
SCHWARTZBART PROTESTS
Taking exception to the Polish
statement, Dr. Ignacy Schwartz-
bart, Jewish. member of the
Polish National Council, this
week stated that according to
cabled advices received by him
from the representative body of
Polish Jews in Palestine as well
as from the Federation of Polish
Jews in Canada, the position of
the Polish Jews now in Russia is
"very grievous and unbearable."
The survival of hundreds of
thousands of Jewish refugees
from Poland is at stake, the
cables said.
