GUEST EDITORIAL

Summer at the Center

By MRS. SAMUEL R. GLOGOWER
President of the Detroit Jewish Community Center

Our Government has decreed that vacations are
especially necessary this year. The top-speed of war pro-
duction work; continuous participation in various groups,
classes and coMmittees for war preparedness; the depar-
ture of the mend of our families to take their places in the
armed forces--aIl these have taken their toll of our
strength and mar emotions. Today, it is more important
than ever, that we take time to re-create our minds and
our bodies.
Long distance traveling is prohibitive since automo-
bile tires and gasoline must be conserved and train or
plane space is needed for military transportation. But,
here, in the heart of Detroit, accessible= by street car, by
bus and by foot, the Jewish Community Center stands
ready to help you enjoy that much needed vacation. On
page 16 of this issue is published the full schedule of our
summer program.
Are you and your family already Center members?
Then you are familiar with the friendly rooms, the fine
gymnasia, the wonderful swimming pool, fencing and
dancing. Use our Dark Room to develop, print or enlarge
those snapshots of your boys in uniform. Relax in our
library. Enjoy movies with us each Monday - evening;
