Many of these students have attended the Shaarey Zedek School since their kindergarten days. Their - course of study in- cluded Jewish history, literature, religion, ethics, Zionism and cur- rent events and problems. The purpose of the course was to im- part a background of general in-. formation regarding the chief movements and personalities of the Jewish past and to develop a positive and reverent attitude to traditional Judaism, its prin- ciples and observances. The following graduates will participate 4n the program: Miss Elaine Brode, Miss Florence Waze. Mordecai Grossman, Shel- don Weinstein, Miss Judith Ja- cobs, who will deliver the vale- dictory address, and Harold Goodman, president of the class, who will present a gift to the congregation in behalf of the graduates. Dr. A. M. Hershman and Rabbi Morris Adler will address the class; Morris H. Blumberg, the president of the congregation, will announce awards for schol- arship, and Harry Cohen, vice- president, will distribute the di- plomas. Ben Chinitz is instructor of t112 class. Frohman Chosen Director of Choir Noted Composer, Conduct- or, Instrumentalist Joins Temple Israel Staff Dan Frohman, eminent com- poser, conductor and instrumen- talist, has been appointed choir director of Temple Israel. He will direct a large mixed choir at the High Holy Day services of Tem- ple Israel, which will be held in the auditorium of the Detroit In- stitute of Arts beginning Friday night, Sept. 11. Together with Cantor Robert S. Tulman and Karl Haas, organist, he will di- rect Temple Israel's musical pro- grain. Mr. Frohman divides his musi- cal activity between Cleveland and Detroit. In Cleveland he teaches orchestral and choir con- ducting at the Cleveland College of Music. He is also the head of the Cleveland A Cappella choir. In Detroit he directs the Detroit Halevy Singing Society. Mr. Frohman was a pupil of Walter Darnrosch, dean of Amer- ican conductors, and of Ernst Bloch, one of the most eminent of living modern American com- posers. In addition to his talents as a conductor, he is a gifted pi- anist and 'cellist. He is the com- poser of the cantata "New Era", and has written many choral and orchestral arrangements for the new Jewish songs and dances emerging out of the pioneer life of Palestine.
