This raises to 200,000 the number of prayer books ordered by the Jewish Welfare Board since September; 1941. The society printed 200,000 abridged prayer books for Jew- ish servicemen during the first World War. These prayer books, then as now, were distributed by the Jewish Welfare Board. Ap- proximately 50,000 prayer books were printed last September for Jewish men in America's grow- ing military and naval forces, and subsequent editions have in- creased the total number to 200,- 000. Having for its theme "Juda- ism and Democracy," the an- nual Consecration Service of Congregation Shaarey Zedek will be held•at 10 a. m. on Sun- day, June 7, in the main audi- torium of the synagogue. Sixty girls will be conse- crated in the faith of Israel. The principal address on "The Signi- ficance of Consecration" will be delivered by Dr. A. M. Hersh- man, who will also give the benediction upon the conclusion of the service. Rabbi Morris Adler will give the pledge to the consecrants and will also ive the invocation. Cantor acob H. Hatzata Campaign Continues Efforts The $15,000 campaign for Vaad Hahatzalah (emergency commit- tee for the aid of stranded Yes- hiva scholars and refugee rabbis), which was initiated in syna- gogues during the Shovuoth holi- days, is now proceeding to widen its activities. All synagogues have accepted quotas, and most of them con- ducted Yizkor appeals. Solicita- tion of organizations and individ- uals will begin this week, after the close of the Allied Jewish Campaign. During their stay in Detroit, the Roshe Yeshivoth have been in constant communication with their pupils in Russia. A card received by Rabbi Reuben Gra- zowsky; dean of the Yeshiva of Kamenetz, tells of the release of 80 of his pupils from a forest prison camp near Murmansk, and implores the Rosh Yeshiva for immediate aid to keep body and soul together.
