Hatzata Campaign
Continues Efforts

The $15,000 campaign for Vaad
Hahatzalah (emergency commit-
tee for the aid of stranded Yes-
hiva scholars and refugee rabbis),
which was initiated in syna-
gogues during the Shovuoth holi-
days, is now proceeding to widen
its activities.
All synagogues have accepted
quotas, and most of them con-
ducted Yizkor appeals. Solicita-
tion of organizations and individ-
uals will begin this week, after
the close of the Allied Jewish
Campaign.
During their stay in Detroit,
the Roshe Yeshivoth have been
in constant communication with
their pupils in Russia. A card
received by Rabbi Reuben Gra-
zowsky; dean of the Yeshiva of
Kamenetz, tells of the release of
80 of his pupils from a forest
prison camp near Murmansk, and
implores the Rosh Yeshiva for
immediate aid to keep body and
soul together.
A touching post card was re-
ceived this week from Kazakes-
tan by Rabbi Abrahm Joffin, an-
other member of the Detroit del-
egation of the Vaad Hahatzala.
"Our condition is not good," says
the writer. "There is no work,
and we get half a kilo of bread
per day. We have already s -ild
every garment down to our last
shirt."
