PM, the New York daily newspaper, devoted several

pages of a recent issue to show graphically how resort

advertisements in daily newspapers spread anti-Semitism.
The reproduction of some advertisements in these pages
sho‘`ed that by using the words "restricted" or "selected
clientele" resorts indicate that they mean only one thing:
We take only whife Christians."
The editorial in that issue of PM. on "The Hate Sea-
,on Is On." was written by John P. Lewis. He points out
correctly that not all who discriminate are necessarily
Nazis. Ile expresses the belief that if they were to pause
to think of it, many of the guilty ones would stop the
practice: and he logically urges newspapers not to accept
such advertising—not that such a policy would wipe out
prejudices but that "it will remove one of the competitive
spurs that has pushed the resort business along the road
of intolerance."
There are some Jews ‘‘,•ho attempt to enter such re-
•o•ts. This type is guiltier even than the anti-Semite. Jews
.,hould make it a point not to patronize those who seek
to discriminate, either against them. or against any other
group.
The season of hate is approaching, and it is a good
time for our people to demonstrate that under no circum-
stances Will they either tolerate bigotry or help to make
it profitable. This is a job for all Americans to accomplish,

-

and it is to lie hoped that PM's campaign will bring re-
sults, and that there will be a serious effort on an all-
A merican front to eradicate this evil.
