Sergt. Lewis C. Frank . Jr,—
be recently was promoted — is
quite a busy boy at Camp Callan,
California. Every day he assem-
bles the happenings of the last
24 hours and presents the news
over a P. A. system in a 10-min-
ute "broadcast" to the entire
camp, which now is an anti-air-

craft unit. Sergt. Frank, who is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis
C. Frank, 2690 W. Boston Blvd.,
also edits the camp newspaper,
called the Range Finder, and is
planning to issue another publi-
cation, the Oozlefinch, named after
the so-called lucky omen bird of
the Coast Artillery. In addition,

he conducts special programs
over KGB California. At present
he is organizing a radio contest
between the bands of his camp,
the Navy and the Marines. Sergt.
Franic is a graduate of Central
High School and the American
University of Washington, D. C.
He has been in the service since
February, 1941.

The last time Mr. and Mrs. M.
Martin Blau of 2911 Monterey
Ave., heard from their son, Pri-
vate First Class Sanford J. Blau,
who served in the P h i 1 ippine
Islands, by mail,
was in October,
1941.
Four days aft-
er the attack on
Pearl Harbor, on
Dec. 11, 1941,
they received a
telegram which
said: "D o n't
worry. Am safe.
Will cable again
next month."

But five inonths have passed,
and no word has been received
from him, and there are no
longer any mail deliveries to the
Philippines.
Pvt. Blau served with the Air
Corps, Headquarters Squadron,
Clark Field, Panpanga, Philip-
pine Islands. He was in the ser-
vice for a year and a half, hav-
ing enlisted in the Philippines
where he was assistant purser
with the Marston Passenger
Lines. Prior to joining the Mars-
ton Lines, with whom he was
connected for three years, he was
an apprenticed druggist. He is a
graduate of Central High School,
studied in the Greenbriar Mili-
tary Institute, W. Va., and was
a member of the National Guard
in Detroit for two years. He
took trips around the world six
times.

At a meeting of the Board of
Education of the United Hebrew
Schools, headed by Maurice H.
Zackheim, it was decided to
hold the commencement exer-
cises of the elementary depart-
ment of the United Hebrew
Schools during the last week in

June.

Four classes will be graduated

David W. Simons Branch; Max
Gordon's and Irwin Sorefs
classes in Philadelphia - Byron
Branch; J. M. Mathis' in Rose
Sittig Cohen Branch; Michael
Michlin's in Parkside School.

The annual commencement ex-
ercises of Beth El High School
department will be held at the -
Sabbath evening services Friday,
May 15. Rabbi Eric Friedland of
Pontiac will be the guest speak-
er. The graduates are as fol-
