GUEST EDITORIAL

For Victory On Every Front

Since Pearl Harbor we Americans have realized that
we are part of a common struggle extending to all corners
of the earth. Victory or defeat in any single sphere of that
struggle is a victory or defeat, as the case may be„,, for
each and every one of us. To win this common, unifiO,
total war, we must fight it on every front and we mtist
extend support to our allies in every sector of the world-
wide conflict. Moreover, we must guard against becoming
so absorbed in the grim task of destroying our enemies
that *e forget to keep our own house in order. What a
hollow victory it would be for us, should we find that in
annihilating the enemies of freedom we have lost the
very ideals and principles of humanity'' andcivilization
for which we fought and struggled. Fortunately, the total
nature of the present conflict has brought about an in-
tertwining of many elements hitherto thought of as sepa-
rate. Today the battlefields of humanity and of actual
warfare have become inseparably linked. For aid and
support to the victims and enemies of aggression through-
out the world is now not only important from a humani-
tarian standpoint, but it is directly valuable to the demo-

To the Jews of Detroit:

t'tith the whole democratic world mobilized for victory, the
American Jewish community, too, must march on to victory

united and strong.

The Allied Jewish Campaign is both the symbol and the
concrete implementation of this unity.

The rescue services of the United Jewish Appeal, the three
major beneficiaries of our campaign, save lives and help the
democratic struggle.

In fighting for victory, in making sacrifices for the
survival of human freedom, we must at the same time give
evidence of our devotion to the ideals and principles of
democracy.

At home and abroad, in the Americas, Europe and Palestine,
wherever help is needed, your contribution to the Allied
Jewish Campaign will serve a humanitarian and constructive
purpose.

.

On the eve of our great effort for 55 vital local, national
and overseas causes, let us dedicate ourselves, as workers
and as contributors, to the task before us.

Each of us must take his post in the great front line of
free men and women. The Campaign is an inseparable and
integral part of the total effort. With that fact in mind,
we shall work and give -- with true generosit
