heritage which it represents in
law, philosophy, ethics and
science. We must bring knowl-
edge of the contribution of
Israel within the orbit of the
academic life of America and
gain recognition for the towering
personalities and masters of Jew-
ish thought and teaching by the
whole scholarly world. The Jew-
ish Theological Seminary is a
pre-eminent force in bringing
this about, and the Convocation
in honor of Rabbi Saadiah Gaon
marks an important step in this
direction. Group relations will
not be ,improved simply by
speeches exhorting us to good
will. We must earn the respect
of our neighbors for the culture
of Israel and especially gain the
recognition of universities and
their teachers. who are forces in
molding public opinion in the
United States.
