Jewish Army. Could Blast Axis
World Strategy Van Paassen
"Stop Hitler in the Middle East'", Writer Pleads; World's
Future Rests On Battles of India,
Palestine, He Warns
By PIERRE van PAASSEN
'A
FTER more than 30 months of war, the grand
strategy of Axis is nearing its climax. Its aim
of bringing about a juncture of the armed forces of Ger-
many and Japan is now within the realm of possibility.
Hitler is indeed poised to strike towards the Causacus, but
his legions are also concentrated on the Black Sea,
on the Aegean shores and on the '
islands of Crete and Rhodes, for
an invasion of Syria and Pales-
tine.
If Hitler lands in Syria he has
but a short overland route to the
Persian Gulf, where the Japanese
will try to meet him with naval,
aerial and even land forces. And
if that contact should be estab-
ished, the Axis will have forged
a link which will be extremely
difficult to break. Should this un-
precedented global strategy suc-
ceed, our allies, China and Rus-
sia, would be virtually isolated
and beyond effective help from
us.

PLAN AIMED AT BRITAIN
The projected Nazi-Nipponese
reunion in the Near East is that
great intercontinental pincer
movement which is intended to
snip off vital parts of Britain's
mighty empire. and to strip Brit-
ain of her Eastern possessions.
But can Berlin and Tokyo do
this? Let us see:
In order to succeed, Hitler will
have to overcome first of all the
resistance of the herioic Red
Army, which is barring his way
to the Caucasus and to Persia.
Should he hurdle this first ob-
stacle. he would then be confront-
ed with whatever forces can still
be mobilized in the Near East.
Japan, on the other hand,
would have to subjugate India
first, because Japan cannot vent-
ure into the Middle East with
the military threat of a free India
in the rear.

LACKS OIL FIELDS
By capturing the Middle East
the Axis would have at its dis-
posal the world's richest oil
fields, and thus would have ac-
quired the only raw material it
still lacks to enable it to fight on
almost indefinitely, to the last
unit of its manpower.
This boldly conceived Axis
strategy, on the success of which
Hitler banks for a speedy and
victorious conclusion of the war,
is not a fantastic recently-de-
veloped plan. It is Hitler's origi-
nal idea, and strictly in conform-
ity with the pattern for world
conquest worked out years ago
under the heading of "Reunion
in the Near East." As a matter of
fact. I described it in detail in a
number of magazine articles al-
most two years ago.
No, it is not, I believe, an ex-
aggerattnn to say that the out-
come of the battles of India and
Jerusalem will decide whether
we must go on fighting a long-
drawn-out war or whether the
Axis is doomed to an early col-
lapse.
