The Allied Jewish Campaign-
A Weapon In Fight for Freedon

When President Roosevelt says that we are engaged
in a total war, he doesn't mean simply that every one of
us is part of the struggle. He means that everything that
every one of us does helps us win the fight for freedom.
When we speak of our country's war effort we can, there-
fore, make no clear-cut distinctions between what is di-
rectly a part of our war program and what appears on
the surface to have only an indirect connection.
All of us realize that the democratic struggle is being
fought on a battlefield that encompasses every phase of
our daily lives. We know that in fighting for victory, in
making sacrifices for the survival of human freedom, we
must at the same time give concrete evidence of our devo-
tion to the ideals and principles of democracy.
That is why President Roosevelt has emphasized over
and over again that we must not reduce our activities for
overseas and domestic causes. In fact, all of us should
recall the fervent plea which our Chief Executive made
for increased giving to campaigns such as that of our
Allied Jewish Campaign during this war period.
It is not necessary to repeat here what must be ob-
vious to all of us—that the Jewish people form an integral
part of the ,war against Hitlerism. No one has expressed

SIR NORMAN ANGELL
Detroit's 1942 Allied Jewish Campaign will open of-
ficially at the dinner Sunday evening, May 10, at
Hotel Statler, with Sir Norman Angell, distinguished
English publicist, as guest speaker. Sir Norman won
the Nobel Peace Prize in 1933.
