Untapped Fields for Zionism
Those who have made a study of Jewish attitudes in
this country will be quick to endorse Mr. Shetzer's conclu-
sions. Annually, hundreds of thousands of Jews contrib-
ute toward Palestine's redemption and through their
gifts give approval of the efforts for the upbuilding of the
Jewish National Home. And yet, only a small fraction of
them is affiliated with the various branches which form
the Zionist ranks inclusive of all parties.
The explanation is not difficult to find. People have
begun to take Palestine for granted. The vast majority of
American Jews crave for the creation of a strong Jewish
center where the physical and spiritual needs of our
people w:11 find sustenance—some continue to say refuge.
Zionism, however, implies more than mere lip service
to the cause of Palestine's redemption, or support for the
ideal. It is a movement which calls for educating the
masses o; our people to recognize the immensity of our
problem in a world torn by strife and hatreds. It is a
cause which challenges non-Jews as well as Jews to be-
come aware of the injustices and indignities heaped upon
Israel, in order that they may neip restore fair attitudes
toward Jews and to wipe out the wrongs imposed upon
our fellow-men.
The necessity for memberships in the movement is
evident, and the existence of untapped sources for such
affiliations is apparent. How are these resources to be
tapped and the Zionist needs fulfilled? There is need for
the strengthening of that devotion which made the prog-
ress achieved until now possible. Zionists can take heart
in the achievements of the past and should draw courage
for future efforts from the knowledge that the validity of
their aims has brought Palestine to its present state of ac-
complishments and unprecedented advaaces as a great
colonization center.

UNTAPPED RESERVOIRS
Referring to his experiences in
the course of his travels throughout
the country in behalf of the mem-
bership drive, Mr. Shetzer said that
there are untapped reservoirs and
that Zionists are obligated to enlist
as many new affiliates as possible.
Mr. Shetzer also reported that
there were drastic reductions in the
Zionist deficit and he spoke with
great satisfaction of the way in
which it is gradualy being wiped
out.
Reporting on the cooperation ef-
fected among various Zionist groups,
Mr. Shetzer stated that there is
genuine coordination and that many
duplications of effort within Zionist
ranks are being eliminated.
He spoke with enthusiasm also

"No Advertising ..No Newspaper"
That's putting it blunty • . . but there's no point
in camouflaging a truth. As you know, The Jewish
News is a community-sponsored newspaper and your
support is absolutely essential to its continuation.
So long as our advertisers stay with us . . . you
will continue to receive this newspaper . . . and our
advertisers will stay with us if you give them con-
sideration.
We are being mighty fussy about the advertis-
ing accepted for The Jewish News. We feel that by
taking only reputable firms, we can keep faith with
our readers ... who in turn should be glad to spend
their money with THE JEWISH NEWS advertisers.
Judging from the sincere congratulatory letters
we have received, you like this paper. We promise
to make it even better with every issue ... that's one
of the important advantages of a community-spon-
sored paper. In the meantime, while progress is being
made, tell our advertisers that you are buying at their
establishment because you saw it in THE JEWISH
NEWS!
