Social Justice's Threats

The reproduction of the expose of "Social Justice"
and Fr. Charles E. Coughlin by PM, appearing in this
issue of The Jewish News, speaks for itself.
The banning of "Social Justice" from the U. S. mails
is more than justified.

It is possible that there still remain people who are
timid enough to believe that the anti-Semitic newspaper
which is now said to be owned by the parents of Rev.
Coughlin ought to be left alone.
For the benefit of those who would deal with the
grave issue of Coughlinism by merely "ignoring" it, we
quote the following from one of the recent issues of the
Coughlinite "Social Justice":
. . . do your worst; ban Social Justice—and then observe

whether the tide of anti-Semitism in America fades out or flames
from a prairie fire into an uncontrollable holocaust!
"The worst possible injustice that Social Justice could do to the

Jews of America would be to discontinue publication of its own vo-
lition, seizing this opportunity to blame the Jews for our retire-
ment. Were we to succumb to such a satanic temptation, the pog-

roms which crimsoned the soil of Europe would rank as a poor

second to what would occur on the streets of New York."

The implications of this statement are too clear to
need further clarification.

"Social Justice" threatens the Jews of America with
pogroms.
Is such incitement to riot to be treated in silk-gloved
fashion, either by our Government or by the public opinion
of the American people?
This is the time to act.
The pro-Nazis remain the anti-Semites, and as a rule
the anti-Semites are pro-Axis.
Let there be an end to un-Am?rican, anti-Semitic ut-
terances like those published in the Coughlin-owned "So-
cial Justice !"
A halt should be called at once to the efforts of bigots
who seek to divide our population, to set one element
against another and thereby to destroy American morale.
Let the spirit of America speak against Coughlinism
and its related un-American, anti-Semitic forces.

The Council's Anniversary

Five years of consistent efforts to coordinate commu-
nity planning and to create a sense of responsibility in
dealing with civic-protective and cultural issues, find the

Jewish Community Council of Detroit an organ for con-
structive achievements here.
The fifth anniversary institute and banquet,.hel.d Sun-

dorsement of the Council's program in the community.
The interest displayed in the Council's work served as trib-
