DRIVE'S OBJECTIVES

Mr. Davies' statement was made
public as Detroit takes its place
along with 1.275 other cities
throughout the United States in a
spring campaign (1) to provide im-
mediate relief assistance to Jews
in many European lands including
150,000 Jews in France and 600,000
Polish refugees who are now des-
titute in Russia and to aid Jewish
refugees in South America, (2) to
speed assistance for the upbuilding
and defense of the Jewish National
Home in Palestine which is now
holding a crucial sector in the Mid-
dle Eastern defenses of the United
Nations and (3) to help large num-
bers of the 200.000 refugees who
have found a haven in the United
States to do their part on the pro-
duction front for democracy.

He pointed out that the Jewish
lives saved from Fascism through
American Jewish help represented
victcries over the Axis powers.

Declaring that even in those
lands where the spirit of democ-

racy has been blacked out, our
people can be the spearhead for its
revival, once the Axis death grip
has been broken, Governor Lehman
said that 'it is our task to help
them carry on their silent struggle
against oppression wherever the
breath of life remains—whether it
is in the orchards of Palestine, in
the soup kitchens cf Europe, or
among the 200.000 JewiSh refugees
who have found a haven in this
