CHILDREN'S
CORNER
Greetings to you, Boys and Girls:
Now that Passover is at an end, let us take a little time
to talk about the Sabbath.
Did you know that the Sabbath day is.considered the
most sacred day for the Jewish people?
We have been taught that without the Sabbath the Jews
would not have their spiritual strength and could not sur-
vive.
The Sabbath day is intended for rest, relaxation and
prayer. In all our synagogues, our Rabbis encourage the
young people to have their own services. Children's Con-
gregations are conducted in the Hebrew Schools. Some
of the synagogues have Junior Congregations. As often as
you can, you should attend these services.
In this column I am going to tell you a few Sabbath le-
gends, taken from Samuel M. Segal's very interesting "The
Sabbath Book," published a short time ago by the Behr-
man Book Shop.
Until next Sabbath, I wish you all a Good Sabbath and
I hope to hear from as many of you as possible.

PRAYER: A SPLENDID
STORY FROM THE TALMUD
A pious man was praying while
traveling. A noble of the land, rec-
ognizing him, saluted him on pass-
ing, but the man disregarded him
and continued his prayers. The
nobleman was angry and waited
until the man had finished pray-
ing and spoke roughly to him. The
traveller replied, "Sir, do not be
angry. If you had been talking to
the king and a friend passed.
would you have interrupted your
conversation with the king to
answer your friend's greeting?"
"No," said the nobleman. it
would not be possible to be so lack-
ing in respect."
"Then, sir," said the traveller,
"if you consider It disrespectful to
an earthly king, how much more so
would it be to interrupt my prayers
to the King of the whole world?"
The nobleman was appeased and
both went their ways in peace.
