Is Held for Jury

CHATTANOOGA (JPS) — The
first American seized by the U. S.
Government on a charge of 'sedi-
tion, George W. Christians, organ-
izer of the Crusader White Shirts,
was ordered held for the federal
grand jury here on charges of sedi-
tion filed by the Department of
Justice. Christians admitted writing
letters to officers and men in the
-armed services which, the govern-
ment charged, was an attempt to
impair army morale.
"I used violent language in the
letters," Christians confessed, "and
advocated violent methods because
I felt that the more violent the
language used on paper the less
violence there would be in the
streets." In the letters he proposed
that all politicians be hanged. He
also asked: "What are we fighting
for?"
