Page Welcomes the Jewish News and Urges Co-Operation of Jews of Every Shade of Religious Opinion Palm Beach, Fla., March 15, 1942 The announcement that a new Jewish periodical is about to be launched is In itself not a thing about which to become greatly excited. It has for years been a matter of unfavorable comment that there are dozens of so-called Jewish newspapers in every part of the land that cannot possibly justify their existence. They render no service to the Jewish cause; they have no literary merit or cultural value, and the community they presutne to serve would be at least as well off without them What makes the announkement of the new Detroit Jewish News a matter of interest, hi the asasirance of Its publishers that it intends to serve the entire Jewish community of the Detroit area without bias or partisanship; that its purpose will be to deal with Jewish news objec- tively; that Its allotment of space will not be measured by the orthodoxy, the conservation or the reform views of its contributors, but that every worthy Jewish cause will be presented with absolute fairness to the reader. The proved ability of Mr. Slontovitz as an editorial writer and the representative names of thoiw who are to constitute his advisors augur well for the character and the calibre of the new paper. If it lives; up to Its possibilltie-t, as we have every reason to believe it will, Jewry in Detroit will have a new and worthy mouthpiece. Under such circum- stances I sincerely hope that the sponsors of the Jewish News may gain the co-operation of Jews of every shade of religious opinion, and thus be assured of genuine success. drive. the steering committee of the city-wide Bnal Brith member- ship committee has decided to ex- tend its campaign until April 30.
