MOLLY PICON

wardrobe mistress, and trained
backstage in a Philadelphia thea-
ter, Molly had absorbed enough
theatrical routine to organize in
her very youth a vaudeville unity
with which she traveled over all
the states until they were stranded
in Los Angeles.
A new skit enabled her to return
and landing in Boston she was in-
duced to appear in the Yiddish
theater and there married the
manager, Jacob ICalich.
With him she went to Europe
where after a short period she
reached heights never before at-
tained by an American Yiddish.
artist, playing a command perform-
ance before Queen Mary of Rou-
mania.
Her fame preceded her to Ameri-
ca, and finally brought her back to
her home shores. In 1923 she had
accomplished her innermost desire.
Her name appeared in mazda
lights on canopy of a Second Ave-
nue Theater, on the Rialto of the
Yiddish theatrical world.
Known and liked in Chicago as
in Buenos Aires, Johannesburg,
South Africa as in Sydney, Aus-
tralia. she is the most beloved and
recognized greatest Yiddish come-
dienne and actress. Her name and
talent is as famous and appreciated
in towns where she never played
through the songs she made pop-
ular, her musical records, the films
and her radio program.
The reasons for Molly's universal
fame and spectacular success lie
In the artist herself. Not an acci-
dent or publicity are responsible.
but her personality endowed with
seriousness of purpose. Blessed
with charm and stage magnetism,
she has a creative ability to por-
tray characters that bring joy and
mirth.
