Santa Barbara Drive, was recently
promoted tO this rank. A gradu-
ate of Central High and Wayne
University, Sgt. Barack has been
in service since June 16, 1941, and
is now stationed at Camp Grant,
Ill.

SEXTET OF DETROIT JEWS ON DUTY
AT THE NAVY RECRUITING STATION
Six Jewish men are now on ac-
tive duty in the Navy Recruiting
Station of the Federal Building, in-
cluding five native Detroiters.
Of the sextet, two are brothers,
the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Abraham
Hartstein, of 2055 Virginia Park.
Solas, 24, a 1935 graduate of Com-
merce high school and a former
upholstery salesman, is two years
older than his brother. Bernie. The
latter, known professionally as
Bernie Roberts, is director of a 14-
piece dance band which has played
at recent Navy Club shows in the
Barium Hotel. Bernie participated
in football and track as a student
at Central high school. Both broth-
ers are third class storekeepers.

editorial staff of the Kalamazoo
Gazette, Pontiac Press and The
Detroit News. Lewis is married to
the former Esther Berger. His
uncle. Reuben Lewis of the Fair-
bairn Hotel, was a Chief Gunner's
Mate during the last World War.
Of the six men, four have en-
listed since the outbreak of war.
All were ordered retained for !-e-
cruiting duty by Lt. Cmdr. Carson
R. Miller. officer in charge.
