Camp Chelsea Zionist House Neaily Ready;
to Stay Closed Walter Field Named President

Camp Chelsea, Jewish Com-
munity Center camp for mothers
and children, will not open this
summer, Irwin Shaw, Center
executive director, announced
this week.
Low registration plus soaring
costs for maintaining. and mod-
ernizing the 23-year old camp
forced the decision by the ex-
ecutive committee.
Cessation of the Center's fam-
ily camping program is tempo=
nary only, Shaw indicated. Plans
for the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion's Tamarack Hills camp site
call for the possible develop-
ment of facilities for family and
older person camping to replace
the present mother's and chil-
dren's program.

The Silver Anniversary of the
Isadore Atlers was celebrated at

Inc., the following officers were
elected: Walter Field, president;
Leon B. Kay and James I. Ell-
man, vice - presidents; David

of the Michigan and Ohio Valley
regions will be housed in the
new building.
Plans are under way to make
the Zionist House the Israel In-
formation Office for the state of
Michigan. The Zionist House
will be the clearing house for all
questions dealing with travel to
and from Israel; transfer of ef-
fects to Israel; shipping of ma-
chinery, clothing, food, etc. to
Israel.
The Zionist House also will be
established as ZOA-Israel Bond
Headquarters, for Michigan. Con-
sideration is now being given to
the display and sale of Israel
arts, crafts and books.
Meeting rooms will be avail-
able for ZOD chapter meetings
and the showing of Israel subject
