FRANKFURT - (WNS) -
The Social DemOcratic Party,
headed by Dr. Kurt Schumacher,
scored members of the Munich
branch for voting to ban Shechita
in that city, declaring that "with
this action you have joined in
Olt agitation of Hie anti-Semitic
movement."
The party also asserted that the
ban was "impossible from reli-
gious and political points of
view" and urged the local gov-
ernment "to follow the line of the
general party policy and the
Socialist International on this
question,"
At the same time it was dis-
closed that the chief rabbi in
the American zone of Germany
had requested the chief rabbi of
Jerusalem and Agudas Israel to
take steps to prevent the ban.

Silver Blasts
Zionist Slight
by Ben Gurion

JOHANNESBURG - (WNS) -
Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, American
Zionist leader now on a mission
for the Jewish National Fund
here, took exception to Prime
Minister David Ben Gurion's re-
cent statement about American
Zionists, expressed by the
Premier while visiting the United
States in connection with the
launching of the Israel bond
drive.
Dr. Silver emphasized that the
Israel General Zionists and Miz-
rachists must be represented at

the forthcoming World Zionist
Congress. Moreover, he said, all

sections of American Zionism teel
"a sense of outrage" at Ben
Gurion's treatment of the Zionist
movement asking that they

"should confine themselves to ed-
ucational work and to the send-
ing of lialutzim."

In an earlier speech, delivered
here at a dinner mar!:.ing the
50th anniversary of the Jewish

National Fund, Dr. Silver stressed
that Israel fears most the danger
of an economic breakdown which
might encourage the enemy
rather than danger on the politi-0
cal front. "In the struggle
against economic defeat we alone,

the Jews outside of Israel, can
supply economic weapons," he
said.
