The final plans for Detroit's welcome to Golda My-
erson, Israeli minister of labor, at the Independence Day
celebration to be held at 11:30 a.m., Sunday at the State
Fair Grounds were announced by the joint committee
of the Jewish Community Council and the Zionist
Council which is preparing this event.

Lawrence W. Crohn, chairman, stated that the
massing of colors at the beginning of the meeting will
be a feature at this year's event. The color presenta-
tion is to be ,conducted by the Jewish War Veterans
with the participation of the Julius Rosenwald Post of
the American Legion.
It will be followed by the presentation of the Is-
rael colors by veterans of the Palestine fighting.
The invocation will be delivered by Rabbi Moses
Fisher. Emma Schaver will lead the singing of the na-

tional anthems. The Workmen's Circle and lialevy
choruses will be under the direction of Dan Frohman.
A special reading of selections from the Israel De-
claration of Independence will be done by Harry Gold-
stein, radio narrator, and the combined choruses will
sing during the mass dancing by members of the Zion-
ist Youth Groups.
'Mrs. Myerson will be introduced by Max Osnos,
chairman of the Bonds for Israel drive in Michigan.
. Several organizations have requested, and have
been granted, space to erect booths on the floor of the
Coliseum to be used for the sale of bonds. More than
40 loud speakers have been installed in th eColisetim
in preparation for Sunday's meeting to insure that
acoustics will be in perfect order.
In view of the transportation difficulties caused
by the DSR strike the committee is considering ar-

The cheers reached a climax
as the prime minister's cavalcade
entered the garment district
where the welcome was tremen-
dous.
From that area the parade
moved up Broadway to City Hall.
The crowds on Broadway stood
six deep as Ben Gurion ap-
proached City Hall. More than
'100,000 persons jammed the area
and roared their cheers as he
mounted the platform to receive
an official welcome from Mayor
Vincent Impellitteri, who pre-
sented him with a scroll which
hailed him as "a man of action
and decision who symbolizes .. .

dependence to Israel and whose
position is assured in the history
of Israel and the free world."
Later a luncheon was held for
1,600 persons, attended by Gov.
Dewey, the mayor, and high rank-
ing Israeli and Zionist officials.

Louis Tendler, Detroit News
reporter, was chosen this year's
recipient of the annual Amity
Award of the Detroit Women's
Division of the American Jewish
Congress.
Tendler will be given the
plaque at a luncheon, at 12:30
p.m., Wednesday, May 16 at the
Masonic Temple.
Mrs. Harry Frank, president of
the organization, will preside.
The award committee, headed
by George Schermer of the
Mayor's Interracial Committee,
chose Tendler for a series of
articles entitled, "Detroit and the
Negro" which appeared in the
June issues of the Detroit News.

New York as he arrived on
the eve of the third anniver-
sary of the young republic.

A public reception for Prime
Minister David Ben Gurion
will be given in the Mayor's
office at 11:30 a.m. Monday,
May 21.
The Israeli prime minister
will come to Detroit on a short
visit in connection with the
Israel bond drive.
Ben Gurion also will pay a
visit to the Kaiser-Frazer plant
in Willow Run. Kaiser-Fraz r
has a plant in Israel.

State Names May
Israel Bond Month

Gov. G. Mennen Williams has proclaimed the month of
May as Israel Bond Month. Following is the text of the pro-
clatnation:
"The state of Israel has demonstrated the devotion to free-
dom and human rights which the United States of America
recognizes as essential to the preservation of democracy
throughout the world.
"Bonds are being issued by the state of Israel to the
amount of 5500,000,000 in the United States for the purpose of
strengthening its role as an outpost of freedom and building a
strong and self-sufficient national economy.
"The bond issue will enable Israel to absorb an additional
600,000 immigrants in the next three years, In fulfillment of
the humanitarian aims of the country. •
"The citizens of Michigan, of all creeds, have repeatedly
identified themselves with the democratic aims of the state
of Israel.
"Therefore, I, G. Mennen Williams, governor of the State
of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the period beginning May 1,
1951, and ending May 31, 1951, as Lsrael Bond Month, and
urge full support to the state of Israel $500,000,000 bond
issue to ensure the successful completion of that nation's na-
tional development plan."

Council that they saw no Syrian
soldiers in locations where the

sentative, told the Council that
Israel had information some time
ago concerning plans of Syria to
equip Arab "civilians" to fight in
the demilitarized zone.
In Tel Aviv, earlier, Foreign
Minister Moshe Sharett stated, in
a reply to Col. Bennett L. de Rid-
der of the UN armistice commis-
sion, that Israel would not with-
draw its troops. De Ridder's pro-
posals provided for the withdraw-
al Of all forces from the northern
and southern sectors of the de-
militarized zone; the attachment
of UN observers to both armies,
and the disarming of civilians
throughout the zone.
From Cairo comes word that
the fighting between Israel and
Syria has done "serious damage"
to the negotiation now conducted
to find a new home for the Pales-
tinian.Arab refugees in Syria.
The UN Relief and Works
Agency has been working on an
agreement with Syria to obtain
homes for refugees in return for
a heavy investment of grants in
the development of the Syrian
areas. It is now accepted that
hardly any refugees will be able
