NEW YORK—(WNS)—Tens of
thousands of Jews will converge
in Teheran, a base for emigration
to Israel, as a result of the spring
thaws in Iran, Iraq and Afghanis-
tan, it was declared by Stanley
Abramovitch, director of emigra-
tion and relief programs for the
Joint Distribution Committee.
Speaking at the UJA offices,
Abramovitch, who just arrived
here from the Iranian capital, de-
clared that the Jewish influx into
Teheran might lead to serious
disturbances unless "substantial
funds become available at once
through the United Jewish Ap-
peal to provide for a swift and
orderly mass airlift to Israel."
He called on American Jews to
act swiftly in ' support of the
UJA campaign to "forestall a
major disaster certain to result
from the massing of refugees in
Teheran, with relief bodies there
unable to cope with them."

The second major fund-raising
and social function of the year
of the Northwest Hebrew Sister-
hood, the Torch fund event, will
be held during May, Mrs. Joseph
M. Markel, general chairman,
announces.
Mrs. Markel is the author and
director of a cantata, which will
highlight the affair. Members in-
terested in appearing in the can-

Religious School
Institute Planned

The first city-wide religious
school teachers institute in the
history of Detroit Jewry will be
held at Adas Shalom Synagogue
(Northwest) on Sunday, April 1.
The program will open at 10
a.m. with a talk by Rabbi David
Cedarbaum of Chicago on "The
Teaching of Prayer." Rabbi Mor-
ris Adler of Shaarey Zedek will
be chairman.
A panel on prayer will be held
by Rabbis Sidney Akselrad,
Temple Beth El; Morris Gorre-
lick, Beth Aaron, and Moses
Lehrman, Bnai Moshe.
Toastmaster at the luncheon
will be Rabbi Leon Fram, Tem-
ple Israel. Albert Elazar, asso-
ciate superintendent of the United
Hebrew Schools, will discuss
"Professional Training of Reli-
gious School Teachers."

Teachers' Institute on "The
Teaching of Prayer" at the
Northwest Hebrew Congregation
on Sunday, April 1.
The institute, first of its kind
in Detroit, will feature a lecture
by Rabbi David Cedarbaum,
supervisor of the Board of Jew-
ish Education in Chicago. The
program also includes round
tables conducted by representa-
tives of the various schools, a
special session on audio-visual
aids and a discussion of teaching
standards in Detroit.
Participating congregations in
