Mrs. Henry Herman of Ilene avenue was kind enough to give us her well proven recipe, and we are sure that many of our readers will want to try it out. STRUDEL Mix % pound of raisins, 1/2 pound of nutmeats and some coconut and grind in meat grinder. Add water or milk, lemon juice and sugar to taste and boil to a paste. It cool. Meanwhile make the pastry: 2 cups of flour 4 tablespoons of shortening 1 /4 cup of water 1 tablesoon of vinegar pinch of baking soda Roll out thin, add the boiled ingredients and roll like jelly rolls. Bake in 350-degree oven for 15-20 minutes. Slice while warm. • • • Sorry, dear readers, that last week's recipe became a victim of the printer's whims. One line was supposed to read: "1/2 cup butter OR shortening," and of course 1 /4 teaspoon of baking soda sounds more reasonable than four, Please send your favorite recipes to Edith Goodman, care of Jewish Chronicle, 900 Lawyers Bldg., Detroit 26.
