Bnai Brith Sends Protest
to Council on Reuter Affair

At a special delegates meeting,
Feb. 11, the Greater Detroit Bnai
Brith Council decided to lodge
a vigorous protest with the Jew-
ish Community Council concern-
ing the action taken by the Coun-
cil Delegates Assembly rescinding
the Community Council's co-
sponsorship of Mayor Ernst Reu-
ter of Berlin.
In a letter to Dr. Shmarya
Kleinman, Victor Bloomfield,
president of the Bnai Brith Coun-

Assembly's action was hardly
consistent with the position tak-

Rank Vault Yields
Rothschild Jewels

FRANKFURT — (WNS) —
Some of the famed jewels and

heirlooms of the French Roths-
child family have been found
in a bank vault here, High
Commission officials disclosed
here.
The jewelry and heirlooms,
valued at more than $1,000,000,
were looted by Herman Goer-
ing during the Nazi occupa-
tion of France The valuables
are said to "belong" now to a
German diamond merchant,
Kurt Berman, who had been
a close friend of Goering.
Bermann's firm was the
largest jewelry outfit in Germ-
any and acted as Goering's
agent in the purchase of jewels
and diamonds. Bermann re-
fused to turn the find over to
the American authorties who
expect to get possession of
them soon.
In the event experts adjudge
the find to be the property of
the Rothschild family the jew-
els will be turned over to the
French government for final
disposition.

Lazere quoted Benjamin R. Ep-
stein, national director of the
Anti-Defamation League, to the
effect that Ernst Reuter as an an-
ti-Nazi and anti-Communist Ger-
man leader represents one of our
strong hopes for a democratic
Germany.
It was on this basis that he
urged the Council to take action
urging the Jewish Community
Council to reconsider the deci-
sion of the Delegates Assembly.
