TEL AVIV— (WNS) -- A
document showing that Jor-
dan's defence minister had or-
dered assistance to Arab in-
filtrees into Israel will be
presented by the Israel gov-
ernment to United Nations
officials in this country, it was
disclosed here by a govern-
ment spokesman.

The document, found on a Jor-
danian Arab who sought to cross
Israel's border, was signed by the
Jordan chief of police of the
Arab-held part of Palestine and
countersigned by the director of
Jordan's external liaison office,
a function of Amman's Foreign
Office.
'In the meantime, Israel-Jordan
tension mounted as new incidents
were reported in the Jerusalem
area, where an Israeli truck was

blown

up by a mine eattatoLsert-

Col. Bennett L. de Ridder,
deputy UN chief of staff, has

Armistice Commission to discuss

JERUSALEM — (WNS) — Per-
turbed by the belligerent activi-
ties of the Arabs in the Jerusa-
lem area, the Israeli cabinet
devoted one of its sessions to
security measures.
The Israeli government is said
to be taking a "most serious
view" of Jordan's refusal to have
the Mixed Armistice Commission
negotiate a settlement of a Negev
territorial dispute and a shooting
outburst by Arab Legionnaires
in the Jerusalem area which has
taken a toll of five Jewish lives.
The commission session ended
in a deadlock when Jordan's rep-
resentatives refused to accept a
compromise suggested by UN
truce chief Gen. William E. Riley.
Instead, the Jordanians threat-
ened to take the issue to the UN
Security Council.
Jordan's representative insisted
that the commission first handle
the incident at the Arab village
of Sharafat, where nine Arabs
were killed by Jewish irregulars
in retaliation of Arab attacks on
Jews.

Metal Industry
Strike Costly

TEL AVIV — (WNS) — The
three-week-old lockout in the
metal industry has cost Israel's
economy a daily loss of $200,000.
Although the government is
making every effort to settle the
wage dispute, there seems no
early prospect for a settlement
in view of the rejection by both
sides of a government plea for
the resumption of work pending
further negotiations.
In the meantime a government-
appointed board has begun an in-
vestigation of wages, profits and
labor conditions in Israel.
At a regional conference of the
Histadrut it was reported that
40,000 work hours had been lost
since the lockout, with an esti-

mated loss of more than $1,-
500,000 to the Metal industry.

The wise men who founded the United States were
guided by the principle that, under God, all men are
free and equal.
As our great democracy grew and prospered, our
people, stemming from many nationalities and racial
stocks, did not achieve and maintain
unity by eliminating differences in tra-
dition and religion or by suppressing
political and economic conflicts. Instead,
they held to a concept which rises above
all these—the concept of the brother-
hood of man.
Nations and individuals alike, in
these days of strife and misunderstand-
ing, desire world-wide peace. Only

on Education

JERUSALEM—(Special)—Premier David Ben Gurion's
cabinet fell for the second time since last October when the
Knesset vote.49 to 42 against a government plan of educa-
tion.
The vote was considered by Ben Gurion a no-confidence
vote. It is likely that new elections will be held in order to
find a working majority or coalition for a new government.

The collapse came when the"
religious bloc, which is represent- sonally opposed to the division of
ed in the cabinet by three min- education into four party sys-
isters, joined the left and right- tems, but for the present the
wing opposition on a vote of no- existing system must be appli-
