Yeshivah U. Histadrut Rally to Hear Talk
Mrs. Adler to Review Book
for Presidents Day of NCJW Gets Charter to by Israeli Woman Doctor

A book review by Mrs. Morris
Adler will be the highlight of the
annual presidents' day meeting
of the National Council of Jew-
ish Women, Detroit Section. It
will be held Friday, Jan. 5, at
the Jewish Community Center.
Mrs. Adler, the wife of Rabbi
Morris Adler of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek, is prominent in
her own right as a lecturer and
book reviewer.
The book she has selected for
the afternoon is Anita Libman
Lebeson's history of the Jews in
America, Pilgrim People.
Mrs. Lebeson will be present
at the meeting.
Presidents of the member
groups of the Detroit Federation
of Women's Clubs and the Lea-
gue of Jewish Women's Organ-
izations will be the guest of
Council members at the meeting
which will be preceded by a
dessert luncheon at 12:30 p.m.

to File Address

The Beth Aaron Synagogue
will dedicate its regular Friday
evening services Dec. 29 at 8:30
p.m., to its college youth.
The service will be sponsored
by the Synagogue's Young Adult
Group and will serve as a wel-
come to the college and uni-
versity students in the congrega-
tion and in the community dur-
ing their mid-Winter vacation.
Rabbi Benjamin H. Gorrelick
will conduct the service and will
preach on the subject "The Need
of a Religious Faith for Intelli-
gent Living."
A special social hour will be
tendered to the students and the
congregation by the sisterhood
with Mrs. Leo Weingarden and
Mrs. Alex Margulies in charge.

NEW YORK — (WNS) — Per-
mission to establish a medical
and dental school has been
granted Yeshiva University by
the New York State Board of
Regents, it was announced here
simultaneously by Chancellor
William J. Wallin and Dr. Sam-
uel Belkin, president of the
University.
The permission for Yeshiva
University to conduct programs
in medical and dental education
came at a meeting of the State
Board of Regents on Dec. 15 and
represents the first time in 52
years that authorization has been
granted to open another medical
school in New York City.
"With the granting of this
right, Yeshiva University will
move ahead with its plans to
open the first medical school in
the entire world, excluding
Israel, under Jewish auspices,"
Dr. Belkin said.
Dr. Belkin declared that the
projected plans for raising large
sums of money to open a medi-
cal school will be embarked up-
on shortly. He asserted that
negotiations which have begun
earlier with hospitals in New
York will be speeded up.

worshipful master of Craftsman
Lodge, Masonic Order, at public
rites held Dec. 14 at Masonic
Temple. Serving with Wunter

to Meet Jan. 25

The Delegates Assembly of the
• Jewish Community Council will
meet at 8:30 p.m., Thursday,

Jan. 25 in the Dexter Center, it
was announced by Dr. Shmarya

Kleinman, president.
Notices of the meeting and a
detailed agenda will be mailed to
the delegates and to affiliated
organizations.
All organizations are asked to
note the date and to plan to have
representatives at the meeting.
The Assembly will consider re-
ports of the Council's standing
committees and an accounting of
the Council's activities during
recent weeks.

VIENNA — (WNS) — During

Hanukkah week a miniature ex-
hibition of Jewish books burned
in Vienna under the Nazis was
held to commemmorate the de-
struction of Jewish life in Austria
where 65,000 books of the Ke-
hilah library were delivered to
the flames.

To set up a program through
which local units of national
Jewish women's organizations
can assist the women's division
of the Jewish Welfare Federation
in the annual Allied Jewish Cam-
paign, Mrs. Leonard H. Weiner,
president, and Mrs. Henry Wine-
man, member of the advisory
board of the national women's
division, have called a luncheon
meeting of local presidents for
12:30 p.m., Wednesday at the
Great Lakes Club.

tion may now be sent to Israel
residents, Dr. Ernst Lewin, con-
sul of Israel, announced. The
government of Israel is cancell-
ing all restrictions for food par-
cels, provided that they are des-

The winter session of English
classes for new Americans will
start on Monday, Jan. 8, at the
12th Street Council Center of the
Jewish Center, 8687 12th street.
Classes for beginners, inter-
mediate and advanced students
will be held twice weekly dur-
ing the morning and afternoon.
This, the fifth consecutive term
of English classes, is again co-
sponsored by the Jewish Com-
munity Center and the Detroit
section, National Council of Jew-

Dr. May Bere, leading clinical
psychologist who has played an
important role in the integration
of new immigrants in Israel, will
address a Histadrut campaign

Thursday, Jan. 4, at the Labor
Zionist Institute, 13722 Linwood.
Born in Canada, Dr. Bere set-
tled in Israel in 1929, after hav-
ing earned degrees at the Uni-
versity of Manitoba and Colum-
bia University.
She has devoted her skills in
Israel to the improvement of vo-
cational guidance methods, par-
ticularly with reference to immi-
grant girls and youth.
During the war for independ-
ence, she served as personnel
and placement officer for Chen,
