held at 9 p.m., Saturday, Nov.
25, in the Rose Sittig Cohen
Building and will be dedicated to
the memory of the poet Yaakov
Lerner whose widow is now
visiting in Detroit with her rela-
tives. the Winokurs.
The literary workt of Lerner
will be reviewed by Bernard
Isaacs, Mrs. Yoninah Mathis and
Morris Nobel.
The last lecturer of the Kvut-
zah on Nov. 11 was Dov Kagan,
representative of the Haduar and
the Histadruth Ivrith of Ameri-
ca, who described his experiences
during the war in German con-
centration camps.

Merkas Parley Set
for Congregations

David J. Cohen, chairman of
Merkaz (Center 4, Jewish Re-
ligious Observances), announces
a breakfast meeting of all ortho-
dox and conservative congrega-
tions at 11 a.m., Sunday at Lach-
ar's Catering.
Presidents and representatives
of the synagogues are urged to
attend this meeting.
The agenda will include reports
on the present Kashruth situa-
tion in Detroit and a discussion
of ways and means to strengthen
aspects of tradtional Jewish life
in our community.

Horne for the Aged
Plans Open House

Members of the community are
invited to be the guests of resi-
dents of the Jewish Home for
Aged at an open house from 1
to 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10, My-
ron A. Keys, president, an-
nounced.
The Jewish Home for. Aged
furnishes group living for 200
residents.
The open house will give mem-
bers of the community an op-
portunity to see one . of their
proudest accomplishments; Keys
pointed out.
As. a member of the Jewish
Welfare Federation, the Home is
one of the major local bene-
ficiaries of the Allied Jewish
Campaign.

Temple Israel
to Give Pageant

In keeping with dedication
year„ at the second meeting of
Temple Israel Sisterhood, the
choral -and. drama group will
present a pageant, "Dedication
to America" at 12:30 p.m. Mon-
day, in the Temple.
The music is under the direc-
tion of Mrs. Harold Sehakne with
Mrs. Morris W. Stein at the piano.
The dramatic pageantry is di-
rected by Mrs. Sol I. Rosenman.

Ahavas Achim Group
Slates Hanukkah Fete

The building committee of Con-
gregation Ahavas Achim an-
nounces that the interior of the
synagogue at 19190 Schaefer near
Seven Mile road .is progressing
very rapidly.
The first function of the syna-
gogue will be a Hanukkah Car-
nival sponsored by the sister-
hood for the purpose of raising
funds to equip the kitchen. This
carnival will be held at 2 p.m.,
Sunday, Nov. 26. Admission is
free.

A membership social evening is
planned for the Yetz-Cohen
JWV. Headed by mem-
bership chairman Jean Friedman,
a radio quiz and club talent will
entertain.
Refreshments and a social hour
will follow the program. Every-
one eligible for membership is
invited.
It will be held at 8:30 p.m.
Monday at the Jewish War Vet-
erans Memorial Home, 4095 Davi-
son.

Social, Inc. was organized in 1945 for the purpose of providing
a social program for the Jewish young adults in Greater Detroit,
and to raise funds for worthwhile needs. The check will be
used to provide Hanukkah food packages for 50 families at the
Institute of the Blind in Gedra, Israel.

to Address Histadrut Parley

The 30th anniversary of His-
tadrut in Israel will be cele-
brated at a city-wide rally and
conference at 8 p.m., Thursday,
Nov. 30, in the Northwest He-
brew Congregation.
It will mark the launching of
Detroit's Israel Histadrut Cam-
paign for $300,000.
Dr. Zalman Grinberg, director
of Hitadrut's Beilinson Hospital,
will speak.
Sharing the program with him
will be Dr. Joachim Prinz, New-
ark, vice-president of World
Jewish Congress.
A musical program will be
offered by Cantor Benjamin Sie-
gel of Temple Emanuel, Long
Island, who will render Yiddish,
Hassidic and Hebrew songs.
Morris Lieberman is chairman
of the campaign.

Late Friday Services

Beth Aaron Synagogue will in-
augurate the season of late
Friday evening services on Fri-
day at 8:30 p.m.
The services will be conducted
by Rabbi Benjamin H. Gorrelick,
with the assistance of Dr. Marvin
A. Last, who will act as cantor.
Rabbi Gorrelick will preach on
"What of Tomorrow for the Jew
of America." Following the serv-
ices a social hour will take place.
Mr. and Mrs. Max Silverman
of Mendota will be the hosts.

Holiday Study

Hanukkah workshops, to assist
parents in preparing for mean-
ingful home celebrations, are
being arranged for organizations
i;nd neighborhood groups by the
adult education department of the
Jewish Community Center.
Specialists will fill in the par-

and significance of the festival
of Jewish heroism. The work-
shops will practice the ceremo-
nies, games and songs and teach
the appropriate cookery, latkes,
