Mervin K. Hart's Council Is Doing Big Business

By PIIINEAS J. BIRON
MERVIN K. HART, mastermind of America's anti-
"'Semitic movement, is having a good time outmaneuv-
ering Jewish defense agencies and collecting big money
without interference.
As a matter of fact the Anti-Defa-
mation League insists that Hart's big-
gest take during one year (1949) was
about $140,000.
One need not be a superman or
fictional "private eye" to realize that
the National Economic Council is big
business spending literally millions of
dollars (r propaganda alone and com-
manding almost unlimited resources
in an emergency.
Does it ever occur to the compla-
Biros
cent gentlemen of our defense agencies that a very sub-
stantial portion of Hart's postage bill is being paid for
by the taxpayers? Ten million pieces of mail do cost a
pretty penny,—as a matter of fact much more than three
times the $140,000 which the ADL allows to the Hart
groups.

We mention 10,000,000 pieces of Hart literature be-
cause we read the available reports of the house Lobby
Investigation Committee, headed by Congressman Bu-
chanan.... This committee has gradually uncovered an
incredible abuse of the free mailing privileges by a
group of Fascist-minded congressmen, men who are
serVing Hart.
Many Jews and quite a few Jewish business firms
are contributing funds to Hart's N.E.C.

WHEN IN THE 1920s, hysteria gripped our nation
and Attorney General Palmer conjured up an un-
precedented fear of a gigantic "radical" menace to our
country, several of the most respected public figures ill
America, among them Justices Charles-Evans Hughes
and Louis D. Brandeis, raised their voices against the
undemocratic aspects of Palmer's prosecution of radi-
cals.
Brandeis was ruthlessly smeared and attacked as a
"radical" and as a sinister influence in our Supreme
Court.
Frankfurter carries the double load of being a
liberal and a Jew, and in these days it means a stagger-

ing load that has broken many a solid back.
Justice Frankfurter, the other day, gave U. S.
Solicitor General Phillip B. Perlman a lesson in de.
mocracy.
A Miss Dorothy Bailey who had been dismissed
from her $8,000 a year job in the U. S. Employment
Service on ground of disloyalty appealed to the Su-
preme Court • . . Frankfurter listened to the so-called
evidence and then burst forth with the following
comment:
"The most important fact in this case is that the
secret, untested, unquestioned finding by the attorney
general is not subject to review by anybody but the
persons who cut off the heads."
In this indignation against the present procedure
of disloyalty charges, Frankfurter was backed by Jus-
tice Jackson who insisted that FBI reports are not
evidence because they contain much that is unverified.
We are proud of Justice Frankfurter's courage,
which rose above personal risk . . . He knows that he
will suffer for it, but he places his conviction in the
ideals of Americanism above personal comfort.
