APPLE CAKE
11/2 cups flour
cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon of vanilla
6 medium sized apples
Cream shortening and sugar, add whole egg, mix well. Sift
dry ingredients, add milk and dry ingredients alternately to shor-
tening mixture. Beat well. Grease pan eight inches square, two
inches deep. Put batter into pan. Peel apples and quafter, push
sliced apples into batter, then smooth batter (Key top.
Topping: 1/2 cup sugar 2 tablespoons cinnamon, 1 tablespoon
flour, and 1 tablespoon softened butter.
Mix topping with hands, crumble over top of cake. Bake 45
minutes in a 350-degree oven.
