One Year Old

El Al Israel National Airlines
celebrated its first birthday. The
first regularly scheduled El Al
flight left the main base at
Lydda, Israel, at midnight July
31, 1949 bound for Paris, France.

During the first year of opera-
tions, El Al's European division
has flown 179 round-trip flights,
carrying 11,000 passengers a
total distance of 820,000 miles.
El Al Airliners carried 79 tons
of freight and 33 tons of mail.
Louis Pincus, El Al's director,
stated that El Al will shortly
operate Lockheed Constellations.
He also announced El Al will
operate two newly scheduled
routes from Lydda to Teheran
via Athens, and Istanbul and
Lydda to the Union of South
Africa via Khartoun and Entebbe.

Torch Drive participation will

Board of the Community Service
Committee, which will meet at
8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6, at
the Dexter branch of the Jewish
Community Center.

Lucow announced that 10 dis-
trict chairmen would be appoint-
ed at the meeting to direct door-
to-door solicitation. The CSC will
be responsible for the territory
bounded on the north and south

boulevard, and on the east and
west by Twelfth street and Dex-
ter ()
