Three of a Kind

America filled a good hand with three of a kind when the

Schwartz children, the first triplets to be born in an Austrian
DP camp, landed in New York with their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Schwartz. They were brought to the United States by the
Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society. The sisters were born on
April 28, 1948.

Rumor Scares
Israelis into
Rush, on Banks

TEL AVIV — (Special) — Ap-
proximately two million pounds
($5,600,000) were Withdrawn
from Israeli banks last week,
raising Israeli currency in cir-
culation to a record 64,463,988
pounds. Bank deposits are esti-
mated at 130 million pounds.
It was reported that the with-
drawals were mostly made by
small depositors who have been
alarmed by reports in the Swiss
press that Israel intends to freeze
bank accounts and absorb funds
for a compulsory loan,
The rumor has been denied
by the Israeli government.
Eliczer Hoofian, president of
the board of the Anglo-Pale-
stine Bank, Israel's largest finan-
cial institution, told bank offi-
cials at a meeting that Finance
,Minister Elicer Kaplan had as-
sured him that the government
was not proposing any compul-
sory loans.
The rumor apparently had aris-
en from a statement by Prime
Minister David Ben Gurion at
the recent Mapai conference that
Israel must raise $500,000,000 in
three years to stabilize its econ-
omy. and absorb Immigrants.
