Israel Charges Egypt With War Designs Clothing, Shoes Added to Israeli Rationing List TEL AVIV—(WNS)—Because the country's foreign exchange position has become worse, Is- rael's Supply Minister Bernard Joseph announced this week that clothing and shoes will hence- forth be rationed. Since appropriations for the raw materials that are needed for clothing and shoes will not be sufficient to produce quantities at the present rate of consump- tion, there will be shortages of these articles and rationing will be the only means of assuring equitable distribution, he de- clared. Dr. Joseph announced this step in a radio speech to the public. Hitherto only food and soap have been rationed in Israel. TEL AVIV—(WNS)—Declaring that Egypt rather than Israel has warlike intentions, a spokesman for the Israel army this week refuted the Egyptian complaint to the United Nations which charged Israel with "premeditated aggression." Egypt has lodged a protest€ with the UN over a minor inci- dent which occurred on June 30. On that day an Israel patrol er- roneously crossed the frontier near Rafa, but withdrew when the Egyptians opened fire, Leb- anon has protested to the UN against Israel over a border in- cident involving a Lebanese plane. At Lake Success, Gen. William Riley, chief of the UN Truce Commission in Palestine, de- clared that these border incidents could and should be settled by mixed armistice commissions on the spot.
