Third Annual Picnic
Detroiters Get ROTC
Awards at U of M
The third annual congrega-
tional picnic of Temple Israel
will be held Sunday starting at
noon, at Lola Valley Park, one
half mile south of Kinloch and
McNichols west.
At the annual parade and re-
view of the University of Michi-
gan battalion of the Naval Re-
serve Officers Training Corps, on
May 24, Midshipman Stanley
Harlan Saulson, of 950 Whitmore
road, received the award of the
Military order of Foreign Wars,
as the outstanding student of the
combined Army, Navy and Air
Force Reserve Officer Training
Corps on the University of Michi-
gan campus.
He also was awarded the Chi-
cago Tribune Gold Medal as the
Midshipman excelling in mili-
tary achievement, scholastic
work and character. Ralph H.
Schatz, 18260 Littlefield avenue,
was awarded the Chicago -Trib-
une Silver Medal.
The highlight of the program
will be two softball games and an
exhibition by the Temple Israel
sponsored cub pack. There will
be games and contests for all age
groups.
