STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL

Al Congress Condemns AJ Committe es

KETTLE IS BOILING . . The participation
the American Jewish Committee, the Bnai Brith
• and the Jewish War Veterans in the All-American
Conference Against Communism has
aroused deep resentment among a
substantial portion of the member-
ship of these organizations.
The reason is that the sponsor-
ship of this conference is as much
anti-Semitic as it is anti-Communist.
Besides being sponsored by Hearst
and the American Legion, the con-
ference was co-sponsored by notori-
ous hate-groups, including the out-
fits operating under the guidance
of Merwin K. Hart, the gentleman
who recommended, . in his news
tter, that good Christians should

THE AMERICAN JEWISH Congress has finally
awakened. Its youthful president, Rabbi Irving Miller,

is now singing the Wise tune against the American
Jewish Committee's foreign policy. It was about time,
For the last few years the Committee has been
expanding on the international scene, establishing
branch-offices in Latin-America, France and England,
trying to direct the domestic affairs of foreign Jewish
communities.
Said Miller among other things:
"I spurn it (the foreign policy of the AJC) as
destructive of the self-respect of the Jewish corn-
munities ..." Rabbi Miller will reinstate the American
Jewish Congress as the authentic voice of Ame •
ewish democracy if he will continue to speak out
against reaction, including Jewish reaction.

THE DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE has launch-
ed a new type of editorial writing. It is rather imagi-
native and novel in Its form.
A trio of its editorial staff gets together and dis-
cusses, informally, a subject of Jewish interest.
Their conversation' is recorded on the Chronicle's
editorial page; readers are invited to join in the
editorial chat.
So, with the permission of the Chronicle's editor
we take our scat at their editorial table.
We would like to tell Messrs A. B. and C., who in
their discussion roamed rather aimlessly all over the

most intricate and basic problems in Jewish life,
that in your first round-table talk you have tried
to chew much more than you and we can swallow
at one meal.
You dish up such questions as: What are the
permanent values of Jewish culture? What should
be the curriculum of Jewish parochial schools? What
is Jewishness basica?
lly Hebrew versus Yiddi
sh !
Can Judaism explain the phenomenon of
anti-
Semitism?

Well, gentlemen of the Chronicle, even to attempt
a o 1
ss iscussion on these subjects one
would have to write volumes and then these ques-
.tions would still remain unanswered.
May we suggest that in the future, you limit .
yourself to more current and concrete aspects of
contemporary Jewish life.
Your idea is good and the members of your edi-
torial staff seem to be intellectually equipped to
project stimulating discussions. But take it easy
and don't prralyze us by throwing so many books
at us all at once.
Congratulations on your new feature, gentlemen
of the Detroit Jewish Chronicle.
(Editor's note: Thanks for your constructive
criticism, Mr. Biron. We believe you are right and
will follow your advice.)
