Neo-Nazism Goes on a Rampage in Yorkville

By PHINE.%S J. BIRON
FEW MONTHS AGO, the New York chapter of
" the American Jewish Committee boasted in an
elaborately protect raiiiphlet that the streets of Amer-
ica's metropolis were free of anti-Semitism.
The American Jewish Committee was proud to
have contributed its share to the cleaning of New
York City. Today, however, ever y New York news-
paper confirms the sad truth that anti- •'

New York.
Yorkville is celebrating a revivai
of llitlerism. It is unsafe for any
Jewis•h-looking ; person to walk the
streets of Yorkville after dark.
The. New York Post, for instance,
is publishing a terrifying expose of
the new type of Nazi anti-Semitism
in Yorkville. Oliver Pilat, fearless re-
porter of the Post, succeeded in pen-
etrating the inner sanctum of the

cated at 2246 Webster avenue, Bronx, N.' Y.

According to Pilat, Burke possesses "one of the
most comprehensive libraries of Nazi literature in
fpnerica."

He is an untiring speaker; at a recent meeting he
reported to have opened his address, in German, as
follows: "The German hasn't done anything wrong.
He and he alone saved civilization from being overrun
by Asiatic Communism. German-Americans need nev-
er be ashamed of their ancestry."
Urging the Gett man-Americans to organize politi-
cally, Burke said: "If three million Jews in America
found it possible to create a state in Israel, why can't
30 million German-Americans win their own battle?"

Burke is the publisher and editor of a bulletin
(decorated with a swastika on its masthead) which
proclaims:

"This bulletin is the voice of white supremacy in
America. It will continue to expose the Jews and all
other elements plotting and working for the destruc-
- lion of the white race and will spare no one because
Ile is considered untouchable."

Schwartz Brings Alive
Sholem Aleichem Play

MAURICE SCHWARTZ. the
perennial leader of the Yiddish
Art Theater, brought to the Shu-
bert-Lafayette so. excellent a pre-
sentation of Sholem Aleichem's
"Yosele, the Nightingale," that
it was hard to credit one's ears
and eyes.
Surrounded by an exceptional
cast whose talents matched his
own, Schwartz has brought
Sholem Aleichem alive in the full
depths of the tragicomedy which
is his hallmark.

Sholem Congregation in New York for his forthright
rejoinder to Pope Pius XII who went out of his way
to refer rather tactlessly to the Jews in his Christmas
message.

It is refreshing to know that there are rabbis who
do not content themselves with generalities and do
touch on realities.

Orchids also to Premier Ben Gurion who sent Gen-
eralissimo Stalin a birthday telegram in Hebrew al-

with him not to do so.

OFF THE RECORD

By NATHAN ZIPRIN
THE CATHOLIC BLOC which supported the Jerusalem interna-
tionalization scheme is ready to back down on its original posi-
tion.

In fact it is no longer a secret in UN circles that this group is
now advocating convocation of a )

be difficult to single out any
surpassing performer.
Leon Foch's highly stylized
settings perfectly created the il-
lusioh of the old country and one
only regrets that the stage man-
agement was so clumsy and inept.
Moving scenery during the acting
does not help any play.
Moshe Zamar who acted the

which compensated for his wood-

IF THERE WAS any flaw in
the performance it was undoubt-
edly due to the difficulty of trans-

A bit more liberty with the
original work might have en-
abled Schwartz to eliminate
some of the 13 changes of scene
which slowed the pace of the
play.
We hope that Schwartz can
continue to keep to the same high
level of production in the future.
If he does, he can be assured of
a turnout equal to the capacity

once again that the Yiddish
theater is not dead.

the Jerusalem issue.
