STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL

Frisch Feels `Grateful' Towards Washington

By PIHNEAS J. BIRON
THE UN DECISION on the internationalization of
Jerusalem represents a blow to the Jewish State.
Jerusalem is the heart of Israel. It
is, as Ben Gurion said, an organic
center of the Jewish nation.
We read that a conference of the
Zionist Organization of America
issued a statement the other day,
pledging its support to the Israel
government in its present crisis.
Well and good, we say. It is but
proper for the ZOA to back Tel
Aviv in this political emergency.
But, as usual, Daniel Frisch when-
ever he opens his mouth politically
Biron
puts his foot into it.
His rather ludicrous statement praised U. S. policy
and expressed gratitude to Truman for having tried
to save Isratl from the Jerusalem blow.
Doesn't Frisch know that it was Truman and the
State Department who introduced the international.
ization of Jerusalem into the. UN?
No—there is no reason to feel grateful towards
Washington. It maneuvered so cleverly that it out-
maneuvered itself and lost out to the Soviet Union.

LUDWIG LEWISOHN who leads an ivory tower

existence these days as professor at the Brandeis
University has not lost his teeth as a merciless critic.
In a recent article in the "Congress Weekly," review-
ing American Jewish writers, he says among other
things:
"Norman Katkov is wholly illiterate." Norman
Mailer (author of "The Naked and the Dead") is "not
without some ability, although he should study a
little English." Irwin Shaw ("The Young Lions")
"covers his tracks by a certain elegance of execu-
tion" but he would not presume to write on any other
subject (except a Jewish subject) equipped by an
ignorance so deep and many-sided.
About the writers in "Commentary," the monthly
publication issued by the American Jewish Commit-
tee, Lewisohn has this to say:
"There used to be a hostess in Vienna of whom it
was said that she invited to her salon only such Jews
who were known not to associate with other Jews.
I am sure that these young intellectuals associate only
with such Jew as are guaranteed to know no more
of Jewishness or Judaism than they themselves. And
that alas, is nothing."

JEWS PARTICIPATE
'2. CAROL-SINGING IS a part
of Christmas. In this country,
Christmas is not entirely, and not
even mostly, a religious celebra-
tion. It is a part of American civ-
ilization, of a way of life which
the overwhelming majority of
Jews share gladly and willingly
with non-Jews.
The fact is that Jewish men,
'women and particularly children
participate in Christmas activi-
ties as much as non-Jews. They
buy and give gifts as much as
other people; they participate in
parties, in charity-giving and in
the general rejoicing which char-
aracterizes the season, as much
as other people.
If these Jews happen to be
business people and own stores,
factories and workshops, they
benefit from the general business
spree which the country goes,

Ile speaks in aggressive terms for the decarteli-

notorious Nazis to powerful positions, making sure
that German-controlled international cartels will
remain in Nazi hands.
The latest MeCloy coup is the re-appointment of
Wilhelm Mann to the post of director of pharmaceu-
tical sales for I. G. Farben's Bayer & Co.
It is not so long ago that this same Mann sat on
the defendant's bench at the Nuernberg war crime
trials.
Records prove that Mann took a leading part in
creating and equipping the Nazi war machine. It was
he who bombarded the American press with denials
of Nazi anti-Semitism.
The U.S. Department of Justice is in possession of
evidence, proving that Mann was a principal in
directing experiments with Farben drugs by which
unwilling victims were murdered. In other words,
Mann was one of the masterminds who directed the
manufacture of human soap, soap made from Jewish
corpses.
This monster was acquitted by two American
judges who believed his fairytale that he had never
heard of the deeds which he himself had directed.
