Russia Asks
UN Rule in
Jerusalem

(Earlier stories on Page 1 and 2)
LAKE SUCCESS-The Soviet
representative asked the UN
special political committee to go
ahead with the plan for an in-
ternationalization of Jerusalem.
Semyon K. Tsarapkin charged
that the western powers had
prevented other provisions of the
partition resolution from being
carried out.
Since the RUssian move has
no chance of adoption, its pur-
pose was a puzzle to all UN
delegates. In effect, the Russian
move puts the Soviet Union on
the side of the Vatican, the Latin
American countries and the
Arabs who all demand complete
internationalization of the Holy
City.
Some delegates believed that
the Russian move was an at-
tempt to confuse the committee.
Israel's representative, Aubrey
S. Eban, told the committee his
country would agree to direct
UN control of the holy places,
both in Jerusalem and in the
remainder of Palestine.

Ben Gurion Eyes Peace
Between East and West

TEL AVIV (WNS)-Israel's foreign policy is predicated on the
Prophet Isaiah's vision of the time when "nations shall not lift
sword against nation and they shall not war against each other,"
Prime Minister David Ben Gurion
told deputies of the Knesset as
they reconvened after a two-
month recess.

PAT ON IMMIGRATION
Discussing the problem of im-
migration, he disclosed that, de-
spite absorption difficulties, his
government is unalterably op-
posed to the slightest restriction
on immigration.
"It is a matter of conscience
for the Jewish people" to accel-

the American Jewish community
to "display maximum efforts for
helping the government double

such aid is forthcoming, he cau-
