Foes of Bigotry to Assemble Sonic of American Jewry's leading fighters against anti- Semitism will convene in the Book-Cadillac Hotel, Friday, Nov. 11 to 13, for the fourth annual meeting of the national council of the Joint Defense Appeal. The JDA, currently seeking a national goal of $6,826,115, is the fund-raising arm of the Ameri- can Jewish Committee and the Anti-Defamation League of Bnai- Brith. In Detroit, the JDA is a beneficiary of the Jewish Welfare Federation. HUNDREDS DUE With hundreds of Jewish lead- ers from every state in the union arriving here for the three-day parley, the conference will re- view every aspect of the problem of anti-Semitism and map plans for underwriting the pro-demo- cratic effort of the AJC and ADL, Max Osnos, chairman of the De- troit committee for the meeting, said. Noting that the JDA parley will serve as a "clearing house for democratic thought," Osnos, a vice-chairman of the JDA coun- ication and employment, re- stricted hotel and resort practices, religious and racial tensions—all are departures from America's democratic spirit and must be wisely corrected. HistadrutDrive to Start Dec. 11 The Histadrut will launch a fund-raising campaign on Dec. 11, it was announced by Louis Levine, chairman of the campaign committee. Last year $90,000 was raised. Histadrut is the strongest labor organization in Israel, and its co- operatives play an important role in the economic and cultural de- velopment of the country. Detroit's organizations, accord- ing to Histadrut, have always been supporting the work of the organization, and it is expected that they will continue to do so in the campaign to come. Israel Gives Truman Ark WASHINGTON—A silver Ark to hold the Scrolls presented to President Truman by President Weizmann earlier this year was given Mr. Truman last week. The presentation was made by Eliahu Elath, ambassador of Israel, in the name of Dr. Weizmann. The crown of the Ark is fash- ioned from silver letters which make up quotations from the Bible.
